Final statement of intent

 Language

My music video captures the deep bond between two friends who share the love, support and memories throughout their teenage lives. My music video showcases how friendship becomes an irreplaceable part of their lives. Throughout the video the tone shifts and the heartbreaking reality sets in that the friend passes away unexpectedly. The narrative unfolds through flashbacks as I will show this through having low lighting and close up shots of the characters face with upsetting emotions for example at the beginning, there will be a close up shot of the performance showing the emotions of how the artist is feeling, with nostalgic music and lighting when showing clips of the two best friends, illustrating the weight of the loss and the emptiness left behind and the feeling of everything being different and empty. The video highlights the impact of their friendship, highlighting that the character still wears the shoe which the friend had bought them,which is also the ugg sponsorship, this allows the audience to see how the memories continue to live on. For example when she is in her bed she remembers those warm memories of them two doing everything together like watching movies, walking, studying in school, making desserts which proves the pain she is going through as now she is left all alone to rewind on the great memories made. The final scenes reflect the character trying to come over the tragedy of her beloved friend and signifying the love she felt for her as the last seen would end on the graveyard scene with a more confident face while leaving a rose behind trying to move on further in her life yet never forgetting those golden moments with her bestest friend.For the magazine, I chose orange and purple fonts to go with the RnB emotions and theme, feminine features are highlighted by close-ups shots, subverting the male gaze. Direct eye contact at the camera indicates confidence.


Audience

When making my music video about friendship, I will target young adults and teenagers as many young teenagers lose their lives to drugs and medical issues. The audience will feel a personal relationship with the artist because young adults and teenagers have or are more likely to have experienced the loss of a meaningful true friendship linking to the theorists Blumer and Katz. This audience often relates to the theme of loss making it easier for them to connect emotionally with the content. By focusing on relatable scenarios, such as the pain in her eyes when she imagines her friend sitting beside her on the sofa making the audience feel empathy. I aim to make the audience feel empathy and reflection and that they are not the only ones going through this and everyone comes across losses in their lives and have to learn to overcome the situation, encouraging the audience to live the moment with their close ones and think about the friendships you have. Psychographics, my music video is mainstream as well as for reformers as my artist wants a change, wants to have a social change and informs that audiences having these emotions are normal.


Representation


The representation in my music video is of friendship loss, the focus would typically be on the emotions the teenager felt;having someone by your side like a sibling then one day realising that they will no longer be there,facing reality and the impact of the separation and her feeling extremely lonely. My narrative showcases the memories shared between friends, contrasting joyful moments with the pain of the tragedy of the loss of her friend. I would showcase flashbacks or symbolic imagery,to emphasise the depth of their bond and the pain left by the loss. Ultimately, the representation is to make the audience feel empathetic, highlighting the reality of friendships and that nothing is permanent, yet anyone will feel the pain and loneliness that comes after losing someone that once was a very special person to you. The actors of the video are a part of the BAME community, this links to Paul Gilroy and the liquidity of culture in London. My video will subvert the male gaze as the narrative doesn't include male characters. This way the characters are not exposed to male validation and sexualisation.


Industries


My artist is signed to the record label which is Def Jam Recordings which will help promote the tours and the music video as they will target mainstream audiences.This is because Def Jam Record label have many connections giving my music video a higher chance of reaching a larger audience. 

To promote my music video using digital media, I will start by making social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to share clips of the music videos and posters to engage the audience. I would create engaging posts that encourage the audiences to share my video when it’s released and increase the amount of audience. Collaborate with influencers or other musicians related to RnB to expand the reach of more audience. I would also use platforms like YouTube to post my video, with an engaging title and the description about the sponsorship.

The publisher of my music video is Penske Media Corporation who publishes a weekly magazine on the Billboard. Billboard has posted many RnB artists like SZA, which means audiences are most likely to be aware of my music video if posted on Billboards.
