Mise-en-scene recreation: Learner response

Create a new blogpost called 'Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response'. Make sure your completed recreation video is uploaded to YouTube and embedded in the blogpost.

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.

  • This is a good recreation that meets the brief. Picking a school-based scene made sense and I like the way you’ve deliberately picked locations in the school to match as closely as you could to the original clip.
  • Co-ordinating a recreation with five actors is not easy – either in organisation or camerawork! You’ve done well to recreate some of those shots effectively.
  • In terms of mise-en-scene, there are two key aspects to learn from this experience. Firstly, costume (including shoes) communicates a huge amount about character and the shoes in your opening to the clip could have matched the original closer (which links to the stereotypes that the original film plays with). Similarly, casting and costume could have been considered more for the teacher character (as well as the fact he walks outside which makes the narrative harder to follow).

2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class - bullet points is fine.

  1. the background and the setting was good.
  2. the angles were accurate.
  3. the lighting was great
  4. the dialogue was on spot.
  5. the costume could have been more accurate.

3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using.

next time when I'm filming I should plan out the angles and make sure the actors know the lines and get it on time, so it syncs in with the original further more I should prepare more realistic costumes for example for the teachers role I could have given them a suit to make it more realistic.

4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas?I went to the setting where we filmed the scene and tried Filming it without the actors to see if they would fit in the scene, or if it would look right and be in sync with the scene. We didn’t have many lines to rehearse so that wasn’t an issue.we took many shots to see what would be perfect while editing.

5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.) plan more ahead so the costume and the shoes would be accurate and also practise filming as my hands were a bit shaky. Also practise more editing to make it seem more seem less.

6) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.

Miss-en-scene is a make or break when trying to portray a specific atmosphere .the lighting itself sets a bold statement and the costume adds on to the personality of each character. Props and set dressing communities enigma codes and the setting establishes the initial tone of the scene.
